We Suffer and We Suffer is the current Commander of the Blood of Eden (BOE). As BOE works primarily in secrecy, there is little to nothing known about the life or actions of We Suffer. As with all BOE, We Suffer is presumed to have no necromantic ability or attachment to the Nine Houses System.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
All that can be assumed about We Suffer's early life is that she has been involved with BOE activities for a lengthy period of time. During this time, she ascended to the role of Commander.
As Yet Unsent[]
At an undetermined point in Judith Deuteros, Camilla Hect, and Coronabeth Tridentarius’s captivity, they are transferred to We Suffer’s jurisdiction. We Suffer is instrumental to Camilla’s conversion to the Blood of Eden cause. The two hold conversations about BOE’s former involvement with the Sixth House, including specific references to Source Gram, which came from the Sixth House six thousand years prior. Camilla and We Suffer also discuss the “break clause,” which, if enacted, would allow the Sixth House to break from the Nine Houses System.[1]
After acquiring an outdated Cohort ship, We Suffer oversees the interrogation of Captain Deuteros. Under her instruction, BOE attempts and fails to power the stele aboard the ship.
We Suffer attempts to protect the prisoners from the wrath of the other Edenites, with little success. Judith theorizes that We Suffer is the leader of a group that was not originally hers, and does not have complete control. Likely because of this, We Suffer asks Camilla to stop carrying the Warden’s bones, to no avail. Similarly, she fruitlessly instructs Coronabeth not to carry Gideon Nav’s discarded rapier. We Suffer also argues that Judith should receive pain treatment, but is met with opposition from every side. Despite these setbacks, she remains in a position of power and is likely instrumental in arranging for Mercymorn to heal Judith and power the stele, thus winning BOE the use of a necromantically-powered ship capable of traveling great distances very quickly.
Appearance and Personality[]
"If Nona had been in less of a woozy mood, she might have thought [We Suffer] pretty."[2]
Commander We Suffer is described as a middle-aged person, with wrinkles that show even under a layer of makeup. She has strongly marked features and a slightly hooked nose. Her eyes are a pretty brown-green, and Nona characterizes them as shadowy. Her hair is chestnut-colored, and she styles it in a neat roll on top of her head, wrapped in a blue-striped scarf. [2]
Ranking officials in Blood of Eden routinely cover their faces to obscure their identity. In compliance with this practice, We Suffer wears a simple white mask, ordinary black goggles, and a deep black hood.[3]

Camilla Hect[]
"Ever since we were moved into We Suffer's remit, Hect has let herself be persuaded into listening to propaganda."[4]
Through Camilla Hect, We Suffer has made a connection back to Sixth House—one that it appears not to have had for some time. It is unclear how important Hect and her position in Sixth House is to We Suffer, but it is a relationship We Suffer is actively pursing.
